Amarok Negea– the ambulance that takes you there

Volkswagen Amarok has been a success since it was first introduced. It combines a platform with a modular ambulance body, which is a completely unique solution. The 132 kW engine, combined with an eight-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive, provides high speeds on both asphalt and forest roads. Driving characteristics remain in a class of their own – even under demanding conditions. The no compromises approach also extends to the patient area, which provides plenty of room in all directions.

The Amarok has been tested under the most demanding conditions in the world as the official maintenance vehicle of the Dakar rally. In January 2010, the legendary competition provided the ideal stage for Amarok’s first major public appearance. Even the scorching hot temperatures and elevations up to 4,500 meters were not enough to stop the Amarok on the nearly 9,000-kilometre route. As the official maintenance vehicle of the 2010 Dakar rally, the Amarok raced effortlessly from one stage to the next and delivered the competition staff and maintenance personnel reliably – all the way to the finish line.

A sleek appearance and design combined with top-of-the-line ergonomics

Features

The modular monocoque body is safe and has been extensively tested. Testing has been carried out with load simulations and practical safety tests in numerous research facilities. The body can withstand heavy point loads and retains its shape even, for example, when flipping over. The structure of the body is both durable and light. This provides good carrying capacity and reduces fuel consumption.
An ambulance built into a regular metal body has to be designed in accordance with the shape of the original body, which means that the positioning of medical instruments and ergonomics always represent a compromise. The design of the Amarok Negea started with the goal of making the ambulance as ergonomic and safe for paramedics as possible. Every medical instrument and patient transfer tool has its own place, providing easy access for quick use.

Stress-free maintenance

Replacing parts and other maintenance tasks have been made as simple as possible. The design of the ambulance provides unobstructed access to maintenance points and adequate space for all tasks. Electronic systems have all been placed in a centralised location at the left back door. The composite ambulance body is rust-proof, and in case of road accident damage to the cockpit, the body can be reused on a new platform.
